GOLOVIN, AK, April 15, 2013, Amanda J. Pasonen, Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher at Martin L. Olson School, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in United States history instruction.

In her current capacity, Ms. Pasonen is in charge of teaching language arts and social studies to students in grades six through 12. She also handles one reading class, three social studies classes and three writing classes, and she coaches girls’ basketball, and acts as the technology liaison, art liaison, and co-activities director. She teaches world history, Alaskan studies and ancient world history as well as world literature, American literature and a writing course.

Ms. Pasonen was prompted to follow her current career path by her own school experiences, as one of her English teachers was terribly boring, and she didn’t want kids to be extremely bored. She always wanted to teach, and loves children, reading and books, and she wanted to share her love of teaching with her students, thereby helping them to achieve their academic goals in a fun learning environment. It is something that makes sense and fits her.

With a wealth of knowledge and experience that has been refined over the course of a successful career, Ms. Pasonen strives for excellence in her every endeavor. She believes it is important to keep learning and plan to focus on technology in education. She attributes her success to her strong work ethic, as well as her parents. Her father would say, “You should work hard and do your best in what you do. If you are good, you are noticed, and people will talk about you. You don’t have to talk about yourself.”
