When she became a mother, she recognized her two sons struggling with the same issues, and helped them to achieve their academic goals. It was because of her personal experiences that she pursued a professional career as an educator and earned the recognition of Professional of the Year representing special education in 2010.

Ms. Hjort holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bridgewater State College and an honorary degree in art therapy from Lesley College.
