An experienced program and curriculum developer, Ms. Sightler lends her 51 years experience to Long Beach Unified School District. She has been a resource specialist since 1979 and excels in collaborating with students, parents and faculty. As a resource specialist, Ms. Sightler is responsible for working with students with disabilities, developing programs to help students reach their full potential in reading, mathematics and writing, and assisting in the development of programs for the state of California. Ms. Sightler became an educator because she always enjoyed learning and wanted to impart the same joy to others. She attributes her success to her desire to give back to her community and to the inspiration she received from her parents, who taught her the importance of education.

Ms. Sightler earned her Master’s Degree in General Education from the University of Southern California and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Denver. She holds certifications in administration and special education. In addition to her work for the school district, Ms. Sightler serves as president of the Pearl Foundation, which bestows scholarships on deserving students. Additional affiliations include The Links, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was honored with an award for cooperation by Bible Believers Baptist Church. Ms. Sightler looks forward to continuing to make contributions to society by enhancing understanding of the field of special education and coordinating programs for the state of California.
