ANCHORAGE, AK, March 14, 2012, Dorothy Matsui, Teacher at Gladys Wood Elementary School of the Anchorage School District, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in primary education.
Ms. Matsui has industriously served her field for more than 31 years, and she continues to strive for excellence in her every endeavor. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, and a genuine love for what she does, Ms. Matsui makes every effort to help each and every student to learn and grow every day, and to flourish as lifelong learners. Driven by an innate fondness for helping people toward a career in education, Ms. Matsui embarked on a career path as an educator more than three decades ago, and she has been able to experience continued growth ever since, as she feels that the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher is being able to see her students succeed through education.
Ms. Matsui earned a Master of Special Education from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and she remains abreast of trends and developments in education as a member of the Anchorage Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Smithsonian Institution. Her journey as an educator began after she became inspired to serve as an agent of positive change by a child with Down syndrome, whom she cared for prior to becoming a teacher. She is now able to help young children to accomplish their academic goals, overcome challenges and learning disabilities, and exceed expectations by leaps and bounds. She is a proud supporter of such worthy causes as the United States Olympic Committee, and in her spare time, Ms. Matsui en joys reading, gardening, and playing sports.
