An expert in urology and oncology, Dr. Waters draws from his over three decades of experience in medicine in order to provide his students with a quality education and a wealth of experiences to refer to. Dr. Waters is proud of the University of Tennessee Medical Centers’ rich community history and he believes it provides patient-centered care and remains at the forefront of research, technology and treatment.

Attributing his success in the profession to his hard work, passion for medicine and his focused nature, Dr. Waters is the former president of the American Board of Urology (ABU) and is currently chairman of the ABU Committee on Maintenance of Certification. He is a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, a member of the Mid-South Division Board of Directors. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Dr. Waters earned a bachelor’s degree in 1970 and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1974. He completed a surgical internship and one year of surgical residency at the University of California San Diego. He completed a urological residency at The Harvard Program in Urology (Longwood Area) Boston, MA in 1980, and feels this learning experience has set him apart from many of his peers.
