Yakima, Washington | October 26, 2010 | Ginger Lee McIlvanie, professional educator at Riverside Christian School, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for her dedication, commitment and leadership in education.
An expert in science education, Ms. McIlvanie teaches fifth through seventh grade students. With over 40 years experience in education, Ms. McIlvanie ventured into education after working as a nurse for several years. She saw teaching as an opportunity to reach more people on a daily basis. She attributes her success as an educator to the great empathy she has for her students. The highlight of Ms. McIlvanie’s career was organizing the state educational conferences. The organizing took 2 ½ years to complete, but seeing 800 teachers collaborating with each other over ways to successfully educate their students was gratifying. Ms. McIlvanie was even able to obtain a NASA professional as a keynote speaker at the conference. As an educator, she insists on setting high expectations for her students and herself, knowing that the benefit of watching struggling students finally understand, surpasses any struggles she may confront along the way. Ms. McIlvanie knows that in order to succeed as an educator your students must succeed. A teacher must be willing to work and put in the extra time, to be committed to the education of each and every student.
An alumnus of Whitworth College (now Whitworth University), Ms. McIlvanie earned both a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education. She is a member of the Washington Science Teachers Association and the National Science Teachers Association. In her spare time she volunteers at her local church and enjoys gardening, decorating, photography, and reading. Ms. McIlvanie has been honored as a Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2008 and an honoree of the Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
