After 22 years in front of the classroom, Ms. Salinas retired this year from leading classes in Spanish and Latin at Lubbock Independent School District’s Mackenzie Middle School. In 2008, she received the Hispana of the Year Award in Education in recognition of her commitment to encouraging her students to succeed. She was also highlighted by the League of United Latin American Citizens with an award three years prior.

With her much deserved free time, Ms. Salinas is currently hard at work getting poetry published that focuses on her devotion to the Christian ministry.
