With 25 years of experience in special education, Ms. Thomas attributes her success to her encouraging nature and positive outlook. At West Marion Elementary School, she teaches major subjects to students with special needs. In addition to education, she also administers students’ medication in the classroom and maintains feeding tubes when necessary. She became involved in her profession because she always had an interest in the field and a desire to make a difference in the lives of her students.

In 1985, Ms. Thomas graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in special education. Active within her professional community, she is affiliated with the North Carolina Education Association and the National Education Association. She is also a team member for the assisted technology team for the county’s schools. In her spare time, she is active with her local church and the Friends Across North Carolina Foundation.
