Joliet, Illinois | January 14, 2011 | Jane Viola Rapson, RN, MSN, retired Assistant Professor, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for demonstrating dedication, leadership, and excellence in nursing education. Ms. Rapson has held a life-long passion for nursing, and she feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to develop the St. Joseph College of Nursing with her colleagues, at which she outlined programs and completed a syllabus for every class used for junior and senior level students. She attributes her success in the industry to her education, the support she received from her students, and her passion for the nursing field.
Ms. Rapson earned a diploma from the Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from DePaul University in 1969 and a Master of Science from the University of Colorado in 1974. With over five decades of professional experience, Ms. Rapson’s expertise is in the spiritual and cultural aspects of nursing. Prior to becoming an assistant professor, Ms. Rapson held various positions in the nursing field, including staff nurse at Georgetown University Hospital in 1964, staff nurse at Augustana Hospital from 1964-1965, head nurse at St. Joseph Hospital from 1964-1968, and staff nurse at Silver Cross Hospital from 1965-1967. As an assistant professor, Ms. Rapson instructed nurses at St. Joseph School of Nursing from 1969-1973 and 1989-1994, as well as at the University of St. Francis from 1994-2002.
