Edinboro, Pennsylvania | November 3, 2010 | Jean L. Smith, M.Ed., retired teacher from Edinboro Elementary School, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for her dedication and expertise in elementary education.
As a teacher with the General McLane School District, Ms. Smith incorporated families into school projects and sent parent’s personal letters that continually updated each of them on their child’s progress. She believes that in order to become a good teacher, one must possess patience and sincerity. Every teacher should be passion about becoming a strong role model in order to guide students down a path of success. Ms. Smith attributes her success as an educator to being humble. She was able to understand her students’ level of knowledge and then associate this into her teachings. Once her teachings were more relevant to her students, they were able to absorb more information.
Over her 45 year career, her greatest enjoyment was working with each student and learning their individual personalities. The opportunity to watch as her students grew and began on the path towards success, was precious to her. In addition to ensuring each students well-being, Ms. Smith kept abreast of the latest educational trends in literature and instilled in each student independent work and study habits as well as responsibility and problem-solving skills.
Ms. Smith is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a Master of Education and she holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Edinboro University. Ms. Smith holds affiliations with Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and is a former member of General McLane Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the National Education Association. She has been honored for her success with various awards including, Who’s Who Among American Teachers for 2003-2006 and the Golden Apple Award from Edinboro University for the 2002-2003 school year.
