Karen A. Scofield-Lawrence, MS, BS is a Gifted and Talented Education Specialist for the Clark County School District. With a sophisticated background in education, Mrs. Scofield-Lawrence lends her talents to the district in efforts to help students to learn and grow by teaching social studies, science, language arts and high-level verbal testing to third- through fifth-grade students. She also coordinates with teachers to assist students with developing their critical-thinking skills. Mrs. Scofield-Lawrence has been lauded for her endeavors, receiving such accolades as the Virginia State Education Department’s prestigious Certificate of Commendation for Leadership in Virginia Reading Month Activities, and the President’s Instructional Award for Local Instructional Excellence. She has also made various drug education proposals, received Young Author Recognition from the Paul L. Dunbar Elementary School, coordinated City-Wide Winners, and received the What’s Cool with School Award, as granted by Channel 8 News in 2009. Mrs. Scofield-Lawrence has taught an in-service art course at All Saints School in Manchester, England. She offered observation assignments for infant and junior schools, teacher centers, children’s hospitals and schools for handicapped children throughout England. In addition, she conducted seminars through Manchester Primary School. Mrs. Scofield-Lawrence is also a cancer survivor who is passionate about helping people to discover the possibilities that life has to offer.
