Sioux Falls, South Dakota | December 17, 2010 | Kathy Famestad, self employed tutor, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for her dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

Ms. Famestad has been working in the education field for thirty five years. She became involved in her profession when, after being inspired by her uncle, a principal, she developed a love for teaching. Since, she has established a career in tutoring. Ms. Famestad tutors in all subjects, including mathematics, science and social studies from the first grade to adult level. She also supervises students and student teachers.

Ms. Famestad received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Psychology and Special Education from Northern State University in 1967, a Master of Arts in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disorders and a Master of Science in Education from Augustana College in 1989.

Ms. Famestad attributes her success to her supportive family including her parents, husband, daughters, son-in-law, sisters, brother and grandchildren. Some of her greatest accomplishments in the education field have included helping students improve the quality of their lives through education, as well as revising the math standards for the state, Sioux Falls, and surrounding areas. Soon she will be working with two children from Taiwan, and tutoring them via Skype.

Among Ms. Famestad’s recognitions, she highlights her Who’s Who among American Teachers recognition, as well as being chosen as a lifetime Parent Teacher Association member by parents. In addition to tutoring, she also does charity work at St. Michaels Parish in Sioux Falls. In five years, Ms. Famestad hopes to tutor and supervise even more students.
