Kim A. Wilson-Daum, MA is an Adapted Physical Education Specialist for the Department of Special Services in the Biloxi Public School District. A refined expertise in remediation and development of motor skills to enhance independent performance of daily activities and teaching recreational/leisure activities to promote socialization with peers, allows Ms. Wilson-Daum to thrive as an academic leader. She works with students of various disabilities, ages five to twenty-one years, and enjoys watching them become more self-confident, independent, and aware of the importance of physical fitness. She is also the coordinator of physical therapy services in her school district. She spends many after school hours coaching Special Olympics. She became involved in her profession because of her love for children and her desire to make a difference in their lives.
In her childhood, Ms. Wilson-Daum was a gold medalist in Junior Olympic springboard diving, and she received numerous gold, silver and bronze medals during her SAAU competitive swimming career, from 1964 to 1974. She was a lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor for the Red Cross for over fifteen years. Her undergraduate work was completed at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1978. She taught an undergraduate class in adapted aquatics while working on and completing her masters at Texas Women’s University, in 1980. After college, Ms. Wilson-Daum fulfilled a personal goal of serving five years in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of sergeant, as an occupational therapy assistant. She has coached Special Olympic athletes for over thirty-two years.
