Thompson, Public Service Librarian for Gardner-Webb University, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, leadership and achievements in library science. Mary S. Thompson is thrilled to be part of the rapidly evolving profession of librarianship. A public servant at heart, she relishes utilizing technological advancements to supply information to her constituents in increasingly creative ways. She recently celebrated her 12th year as a public service librarian for Gardner-Webb, where she specializes in library services, and religious studies and Christian education. Assigned to the university’s John R. Dover Memorial Library, she is responsible for managing the circulation of reference books and periodicals, overseeing database management, liaising for the divinity school, and counseling on religious studies for the philosophy department. An active member of her industry, Ms. Thompson is affiliated with several organizations. These include the North Carolina Library Association, the Southeastern Innovative Users Group, the Association of College and Research Libraries, the American Library Association, and the Learning Resources Association of North Carolina Community College. Previously, she worked at the Vanderbilt Library and helped establish several church libraries. Ms. Thompson earned a Master of Library Science in 1996 from North Carolina Central University. Additionally, she obtained a master’s degree in church and community studies in 1979 from Scarritt College and a bachelor’s degree in Christian education in 1976 from Pfeiffer University. As she moves forward in her career, Ms. Thompson aspires to venture into publishing by completing a book that her father had started, a discussion of the Gospel of John.
