Mary RennebohmTitle: International School Counselor and Educator

Location: Salem, OR, United States

SALEM, OR, October 14, 2013, Mary Rennebohm, International School Counselor and Educator, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in counseling.

Ms. Rennebohm entered the education field 30 years ago due to her passion for working with children and helping them succeed in life. She found enjoyment in building relationships with students, parents, teachers and colleagues, and saw how the field brings about diversity and variety. She has taught and counseled in five different countries, including Germany, Austria, Singapore, Dubai and the Netherlands, and has dealt with transitional issues, cultural adjustments, academic assessments, orientation, and group workshops, as well as parenting workshops. Ms. Rennebohm was also heavily involved in working with students in the international baccalaureate program.

She is extremely grateful for the opportunities she has been presented with throughout her career. Her international work has enabled her to interact with students of more than 70 nationalities who range from the age of 3 to 18. These students helped her gain a perspective of different cultures and educational development around the world. Ms. Rennebohm considers it a privilege and honor to be able to reach out and touch the lives of others on a daily basis. While sometimes it can be as simple as sharing a smile with a student, at other times, it can be helping a child put the pieces of life together after a family divorce or crisis. Whatever the circumstance, she has found that the presence of a caring human being can change the life of another person.

Aside from her teaching and counseling work, Ms. Rennebohm shares her knowledge of the industry through publishing articles and attending professional conferences. Her article, “Counseling Abroad: Using Your Skills in the World,” was published in the book, “Empowering the 21st Century Professional School Counselor,” through the American School Counselor Association. Ms. Rennebohm attributes all the success she has experienced in her career to her upbringing, her desire to make a difference, and the encouragement she receives from her parents.

Ms. Rennebohm is currently working with the Newberg School District at Mabel Rush Elementary School where she provides individual and group counseling for students from kindergarten through grade five. She is also involved with the Character Education Committee, and is supervising a Social Work Intern from the local University.

Mary Rennebohm was originally selected for inclusion in EliteAMERICAN Educators in October 2013. We are proud to be featuring Ms. Rennebohm again in EliteAMERICAN Educators for 2014.
