As an associate professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Grove managed the nursing program, hired and assessed faculty and staff, evaluated the curriculum, admitted and registered students, prepared student and alumni records, managed accreditation procedures, participated in research, wrote and monitored grants, and taught leadership, management and disaster nursing courses. Dr. Grove attended the University of Pittsburgh where she graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) and then in 1972 with a Master of Education (M. Ed.). In 1980 she graduated from Duquesne University with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN) and finally in 1988 she earned a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in higher educational administration from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a certified school nurse by the State of Pennsylvania and received her diploma from the School of Nursing at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Grove is on the board of the Cambria-Somerset Council for Education of Health Professionals, she is an active board member of the Alumni Association at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown, an active member of the Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary, the National League for Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau International. She has been honored with various awards and honors, including, Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, Tribute to Women in Education awarded by the Young Women’s Christian Association, Woman of Distinction Award from Our Town Newspaper, “Service to the Community” Award from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Advisory Board, and Recognition for her accomplishments by Who’s Who Publications. She currently volunteers as a board member for United Cerebral Palsy, Arbutus Park Retirement Community, and Moxham Renaissance. She also volunteers with the Reach to Recovery Program, the American Cancer Society, and is on the Fundraising Committee at Daffodil Days. She currently serves as an article reviewer for several professional journals.
Dr. Grove has held various positions including pediatric head nurse, nursing supervisor, instructor, director of the hospital based school of nursing, and the director and associate professor for the university’s nursing program. After her retirement, she became an adjunct associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh. She has created a School Nurse Certificate program for the state of Pennsylvania and looks forward to one day having the opportunity to become a consultant and assist with research.
As an educator, Dr. Grove enjoyed helping her students become registered nurses and advance in the field. As a nurse, she enjoyed all the changes and diversity the field offered. For anyone looking to advance a career in any field, Dr. Grove advises to not wait for the perfect opportunity to obtain what you want; if you want to do it, do it.
