Yuma, AZ, January 28, 2011, Shirley C. Ehler, Associate Faculty Member at Arizona Western College, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, leadership and achievements in music instruction.
A former Teacher of the Year, Ms. Ehler has built a career founded on an abiding passion for music. She lends her talents to Arizona Western College, where she specializes in keyboard, piano and organ instruction. An associate faculty member in the college’s music department, she conducts courses in music appreciation, teaches youth and advanced choir, and instructs high school students and third through eighth graders.
Ms. Ehler became a national board certified teacher in 2009, and considers this her proudest accomplishment to date. She earned a Master of Education, with honors, from Northern Arizona University, the same institution from which she graduated summa cum laude in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies. A truly exemplary student, Ms. Ehler received an Associate of Arts from AWC, also with honors. She attributes the success that she has enjoyed to her passion for her profession and the high standards she sets for herself.
Active in several organizations, Ms. Ehler serves as music director of the Protestant Chapel of Yuma Proving Ground and as team leader of her local bell choir. She is also affiliated with the Yuma County Music Educators Association, the Arizona Music Educators Association, the Music Teachers National Association, and Phi Kappa Phi. As she moves forward in her career, Ms. Ehler plans to pursue a master’s degree in music education and establish a youth choir at her college.
