Specializing in cultural arts and elementary education, Ms. Hagy motivates first-grade students to love school and the learning process, and builds self-esteem in children. She has garnered a reputation of distinction and prominence among her students, members of her community, and colleagues for her commitment to giving children a quality education, and she continuously works with them to help them to achieve their academic goals and to become future leaders. She was named an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America by Saint Anne’s School in 1976, and she also received an Outstanding Reading Teacher Award from the Southwest Virginia Reading Council in 1994.
Ms. Hagy was inspired to pursue a career in teaching by a desire to follow her dreams of helping children to accomplish their objectives; she also maintained a lifelong interest in teaching. She developed reading skills tests in 1978, and has conducted workshops on reading and mathematics techniques. Upon reflecting on a rewarding career, Ms. Hagy attributes her success to her perseverance, enthusiasm, patience, passion for her profession, and the support she receives from her students and parents.
