Betty Jean Norman is the reference librarian at Ponca City Library, which serves as a guide to the world of information, a source of leisure materials, and a supporter of lifelong learning. She has been a librarian for more than 30 years and entered the profession after spending 14 years working in the government. Ms. Norman always had a passion for reading and loved learning about the world through books. She was a remedial reading teacher early in her career and lobbied to get librarians in the library, not secretaries, and worked in the medical information field setting up non print media libraries in Illinois. In her role, Ms. Norman is responsible for answering all reference calls, handling all of the inter-library loans and holds, maintaining the computer system, and working with novelists, inter-library world catalog and the nonfiction section. Ms. Norman believes that she has achieved great success in her career because she always had the support of her family. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue learning something new every day.
