Miller Place, NY, May 4, 2015, Renee Danette (Petrola), Retired Teacher for Mount Sinai School District, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, achievement and leadership in teaching literature.

Ms. Danette dedicated 43 years of service to the education field and Mount Sinai School District. During her tenure, she managed an intensive creative and research writing program, taught four classes in writing and a reading literature program to sixth-grade students, encouraged students to become involved in competitive writing and poetry contests, taught students utilizing computers, desktop publishing and Smart boards, conducted conferences with three other teachers, and consulted with special education teachers. Ms. Danette was a highly regarded teacher and achieved great success in her position. She feels the highlight of her career was being recognized for her participation in the Walt Whitman Poetry Contest. Her students placed first two years in a row for anthology. She also accompanied her principal to Washington D.C. to receive a Blue Ribbon Award, which is given to schools cited for exemplary high performance by the U.S. Department of Education. The teachers at her school had a brick installed at The Walt Whitman Walkway.

Aside from a career in teaching, Ms. Danette also worked as a conflict mediator and has experience as a counselor. She taught swimming lessons and was involved in the local parent-teacher association and was one of four pioneer teachers working in an outdoor learning laboratory with fifth-grade students studying the impact of humankind upon the environment.

She is also an accomplished author who published three poetry books. Ms. Danette’s first book, “Woman on the Edge of Time,” was self-published. Her second book, “Primitive Dancer,” was published by Book Stand Publishing, and her third book, “The Healing Tree,” is published by Book Stand Publishing.
