Sister Esker has 51 years of professional experience, with 16 years as a teacher and learning center director of Moreland Notre Dame School. Throughout her career, she has set herself apart as an expert in language arts. Each day, she teaches English to eighth-grade students, and religion to seventh-grade students. She also manages a composition class for first- through eighth-grade students.
Sister Esker volunteers her spare time working with wildlife protection groups. She is also a fervent supporter of sports events at her school. The 2010 Moreland Notre Dame yearbook was dedicated in her honor. She became involved in her profession after receiving inspiration from her teachers and tutoring her classmate. She found that she could impart a great deal of knowledge to others. The most gratifying aspect of her career is meeting with returning alumni, who thank her for teaching them how to write well, as well as reinforcing the English skills necessary for success.
Sister Esker received a master’s degree in elementary education, with a minor in social studies, from Clarke College in 1977, and she maintains affiliation with the National Community Education Association. In five years, Sister Esker hopes to continue teaching and helping children express themselves.
