MOBILE, AL, November 7, 2013, Annie L. Hughes-Pettaway, Teacher for Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama, has been recognized by Elite American Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in educating 10th through 12th-grade students.
For the past seven years, Ms. Pettaway has utilized her education and discipline skills to work with young people and educate incarcerated students. Ms. Pettaway was inspired by a minister at her church who exposed her to the fact that there were very few options for at-risk youth. She decided she could not sit by and watch these individuals fail in life due to a lack of education, and decided to team up with the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama because she knew it would provide her with ample opportunities to motivate and assist the youth in her community. Ms. Pettaway was honored by a local paper, “Call News,” which named her as an outstanding teacher.
Ms. Pettaway also stays active in her community through volunteering at her local church. She is a very community-minded individual who is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Ms. Pettaway earned a master’s degree in theology at Covington Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Science in physical education and social sciences at Alabama State University. She attributes all the success she has experienced throughout her 39-year career to the support she received from her parents. Ms. Pettaway intends to continue fulfilling her mission of helping today’s youth by providing them with invaluable education and ministry services.
Annie Pettaway was originally selected for inclusion in EliteAMERICAN Educators in November 2013. We are proud to be featuring Ms. Pettaway again in EliteAMERICAN Educators for 2015.
