In addition to her degree in education, she has also earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible study. Her faith in God has helped her to achieve the successes she has accomplished in life. Charlotte, NC, March 17, 2016, Janet Hurley Kopsch-Hitchner, Retired Speech-Language Pathologist from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, has been recognized by Elite American Educators, for dedication, achievement and leadership in augmentative communication and assisted technology administration.

For more than fifty years, Ms. Kopsch-Hitchner was a dedicated educator, caring and aiding for children with learning disabilities. Her job extended beyond the classroom, as she coordinated programs, wrote grants and operated software applications. In addition to her work within the education system, Ms. Kopsch-Hitchner supports the Special Olympics, Operation Santa Claus with the American Red Cross, a liaison with Wachovia’s Angel Tree and Lion’s Club International. Helping children with communication disorders has been the highlight of her career.

One of Ms. Kopsch-Hitchner’s greatest successes was receiving a $5,000 grant for Metro School from the Bank of America Foundation. Although she retired in 2012, she continues to conduct workshops for new and veteran teachers. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan and the Master of Arts in speech-language pathology from the University of Northern Iowa. She has been recognized for her dedicated work as a speech-language pathologist with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Speech, Hearing, Language Association. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools also honored her with an Emmy Award in 2008.

Timothy Doman

Mr. Doman retired in 2004 and dedicates his time to serving as a member at large and occasional chairman of the Planning Commission-Acts.
